WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Dash OF Courtney Hawkins launched a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning and that proved to be the difference on Sunday night. The Keys plated a run in the first and fourth inning but failed to plate a run when Winston-Salem turned to their bullpen. LHP Tim Berry tossed six innings on the night and allowed three runs on five hits. Johnny Ruettiger and Allan de San Miguel each drove in a run in the losing effort.

Johnny Ruettiger led off the series opener in Winston-Salem with a single to center field. Ruettiger stole second base in the frame and came around to score on an Allan de San Miguel RBI double to left-center.

The Dash quickly tied up the game in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, SS Joey DeMichele singled to left field off Tim Berry. Following a Rangel Ravelo ground out that advanced DeMichele to second, Chris Curley hit a RBI double to center field.

Winston-Salem tacked on another run in the third inning on a DeMichele infield single. 2B Micah Johnson scored on the play. Johnson reached on a fielder's choice, moved to second on a Tim Berry balk, and stole third base in the third inning.

The Keys had opportunities against RHP Braulio Ortiz but failed to capitalize. CF Glynn Davis led off the fourth inning with a double to left field. Frederick loaded the bases with one out against Ortiz. Johnny Ruettiger hit into a fielder's choice. Davis scored on the play to tie the game at two. Following a Jerome Pena walk to reload the bases, Michael Ohlman hit a slow roller to third base. 3B Chris Curley made a stellar barehanded play to end the inning.

Ortiz exited after four innings on Sunday night. In his Carolina League debut, he allowed two runs on five hits while walking three and striking out five.

In Tim Berry's final inning of work, the Dash reclaimed the lead for good. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Courtney Hawkins hit a solo home run to left field. Hawkins' 17th home run of the season proved to be the difference.

Jeremy Erben and Joe Dvorsky combined for five shutout innings out of the Winston-Salem bullpen. Erben improved to 3-1 on the season while Dvorsky notched his first save of the season. Tim Berry fell to 8-6.

Jesse Beal tossed two perfect innings of relief out of the Keys bullpen.

The Keys and Dash will play game two of their three-game series on Monday night. RHP Brady Wager (2-4, 5.13) will start for Frederick while Winston-Salem will counter with RHP Chris Beck (9-8, 2.95). First pitch from BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem is set for 7 p.m. Coverage on 1450 AM The Source will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the Frederick Gorilla Pregame Show.
